I am a member of Senior Care Alliance (SCL) at Jane Addams Senior Caucus. I am writing both as a caregiving recipient and as a member of SCL. As a member who has had caregivers’ help for over 8 years, I have needed my caregiver more and more each year. I can no longer stand up straight for more 15 minutes. And no longer clean, cook, run errands and everything else that my caregiver does and more. As a member of SCL and JASC, we are seniors dedicated to aging in place. For this, we need well paid and well trained care workers who receive benefits. Our group works on these issues on local, state, and federal levels. We have caregivers and care recipients in SCL so we get all points of view. We are powerful because we are Seniors and this is OUR issue and we need to AGE in PLACE.
